Avoid excessive sun exposure prior to your treatment.

Avoid shaving at least 5-7 days prior to first treatment

Avoid waxing/tweezing for 2-3 weeks prior. Once treatments begin, discontinue shaving, waxing and epilation in the treatment area.

Gently exfoliate the area prior to treatment to remove any dead skin cells to allow the hair follicles to be more accessible; this will allow your therapist to work more efficiently.

Prior to appointment, ensure the area is clean, free of makeup, lotions or creams. If the treatment area is on the body, wear comfortable loose fitting clothes if possible.

Depending on the treatment area and individual, panadol/paracetamol may be taken prior to treatment to allow for a more comfortable treatment.

Ensure you are hydrated, drink plenty of water prior to your appointment to improve results.

Keep the area clean and moisturised to prevent any infection in the treatment area. Your Complete Skin & Beauty Therapist will advise you of appropriate aftercare products.

For the first 24 hours post treatment, avoid any irritants in the treatment area; such as non-mineral makeup, perfume and fragranced lotions.

Avoid any heat based treatments and/or activities that may cause sweating or encourage bacterial growth in treatment area (eg. exercise, saunas, hot showers, swimming) for at least 48 hours.

Practice sun avoidance where possible and use SPF to protect from post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or other negative events.

Due to the intricate process of inserting the probe in each follicle, this treatment is quite time consuming and a series of treatments will be needed to provide an ideal treatment outcome. During your initial consultation, your professional Complete Skin & Beauty Therapist will analyse your area/s of concern and provide a customised treatment plan. 

Local erythema and follicular oedema can last one to two days post treatment.  

Small scabs can form post treatment; do not pick and allow them to heal, picking can cause scarring or a bacterial infection.

This will vary from client to client depending on the hair growth and the area being treated. In most cases, one treatment per week is ideal, however sometimes we may do the treatment more or less frequently. We perform a free consultation for all clients first so we can confirm these details with you prior to starting your course of treatments. It is essential that you follow your treatment plan provided by your Complete Skin & Beauty Therapist for best results. 

Contraindications to Electrolysis treatments are divided into two main categories; Definitive and Restrictive.

DEFINITIVE CONTRAINDICATIONS 

If you have/are experiencing any definitive contraindications, your Complete Skin & Beauty Therapist will not be able to perform the treatment. 

• Blood Thinning Medication 
• Dermographia 
• Haemophilia 
• History of Keloid Scarring 
• Pacemaker 
• Pregnancy (1st Trimester) 
• Recent Scar Tissue (in treatment area) 
• Rosacea [active] (in treatment area) 
• Active herpes/cold sores (in treatment area) 
• Moles (in treatment area) 
• Sunburn (in treatment area) 
• Recent use of depilatory creams, waxing or epilation (in treatment area)- Will need to wait 2 weeks 
• Undergoing chemotherapy or immunotherapy, or someone who is immunosuppressed.   

RESTRICTIVE CONTRAINDICATIONS 

If you have/are experiencing restrictive contraindications, your Complete Skin & Beauty Therapist may require you to get a GP note before treatment is considered or performed; as safety is always the top priority. 

• Asthma/Respiratory Disorders 
• Circulatory Problems i.e. Phlebitis/Thrombosis (in treatment area) 
• Diabetes  
• Epilepsy  
• ‘General medication’ 
• Heart Conditions 
• Hepatitis/Aids/HIV (as may be immunosuppressed) 
• High Blood Pressure  
• Laser/IPL (recent treatment in area to be treated) 
• Local Bruising/Swelling 
• Loss of Tactile Sensation (in treatment area) 
• History of Cancer  
• Lupus  
• Minors 
• Metal plates or pins 
• Skin Diseases/Disorders 
• Steroids 
• Swelling/Oedema 
• Tattoo- Less than 12 months old (in treatment area) 
• Pigment disorders or skin colouration
