Pigmentation indicates areas of the skin that maybe darker in colour than the surrounding skin and can result in a patchy or
uneven skin tone. Hyperpigmentation is a medical term referring to darker patches of skin caused by excess melanin production.
While sun exposure is a common cause of pigmentation, any condition that causes inflammation of the skin such as acne or burns can lead
to over activity in melanocytes and an increase in pigment levels. Pigmentation can present in different forms including freckles,
sunspots, melasma or chloasma, birthmarks and seborrheric keratosis and can be made worse by continued sun exposure or inappropriate
product usage (such as alcohol in fragrances).
Pigmentation can take time to form, and consequently time to correct but there are a range of options to help lighten and brighten the skin to even out skin tone.
