Unless you are new to the Skin Care world (or living under a rock) you would have heard all the hype around Skin Needling and the benefits it has on the skin. Skin Needling, microneedling or Collagen Induction Therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that’s used to treat skin concerns by creating micro wounds to stimulate collagen production. Treatments can be performed professionally with a mechanised pen device or at home with a hand-held roller.
In this blog, I will be focusing on the home roller device and how you can achieve great results in the comfort of your own home; the benefits, how to correctly perform the treatment and other important need-to-know information.
What is it?
The O Skin-Inject Derma Roller by O Cosmedics utilises 600 gamma-sterilied (surgical grade), micro-needles to effectively and visibly
stimulate the skin’s natural healing response. Independently rotating disks utilise an advanced silicone suspension system to provide
the most comfortable treatment.
The Benefits of Rolling
The home roller device needles are much shorter (0.25mm in length) than those used in a professional treatment. As a result, improvements to the skin are typically seen with concerns of the outermost layer of the skin. When rolled over the skin, the micro needles create tiny channels on the surface. This action aerates the surface benefiting the skin in two ways: it oxygenates the skin to kill the presence of any bacteria and it increases the absorption of topical products.
Products you apply to the skin when rolling or immediately after will penetrate the skin's barrier and infuse deep into the layers of the skin, resulting in superior results. In fact, you can expect an increase of up to 200% of your home skin care when using the Derma Roller!
The needling action increases skin cell turnover and offers a form of exfoliation to the skin. This results in smoother, more hydrated skin. Regular rolling is extremely beneficial in correcting and maintaining skin health and immunity.
Your therapist will likely recommend the Derma Roller to use at home between professional Skin Needling treatments. At-home use of the Derma Roller will assist in Salon clinical treatments with the following concerns:
In a nutshell, the benefits of using a Derma Roller home device are:
Directions for Use
It's important to follow the directions for use to ensure best results.
When beginning rolling, skins may react differently - slight redness, tingling or itching can be common until the skin becomes accustomed to
the treatment. If you experience prolonged irritation, discontinue use and contact your O Cosmedics practitioner.
Treatment Frequency
It is recommended to roll at least 3 times per week or nightly for best results. Depending on the frequency of use, O Skin-Inject Derma
Roller will last 4-6 months before a replacement is needed. As a guide, if the needles become dull and blunt, it's time for a
replacement!
Important Information
It should go without saying that the skin must be protected from UV exposure - always apply SPF daily and avoid direct sun exposure. We
recommend O Cosmedics Mineral Pro SPF 30 or 50.
Microneedling can cause some potential side effects such as redness and skin irritation if used incorrectly. When conducting the procedure
at home, you should listen to your skin. If it reacts negatively (eg. persistent redness, discomfort, or other unusual responses), stop the
treatment immediately and consult with a healthcare professional.
** It is critical to never share your Derma Roller with anyone else to avoid cross-contamination and possible skin infections.
Derma rolling can be a beneficial at-home skin treatment with visibly impressive results. It is recommended that you consult with a
professional before starting any type of microneedling treatment to ensure it's suitable for your skin and health condition. To find
out more information about the O Skin-Inject Derma Roller device, speak to your skin therapist when you are next in Salon :)
